Conor Gallagher Tottenham Transfer Close as Spurs Table €40m Bid for Atletico Midfielder

The Conor Gallagher Tottenham transfer is edging closer after Spurs submitted a €40 million (£34.7 million) bid to sign the Atletico Madrid midfielder, a move expected to be accepted by the Spanish club.

Transfer expert David Ornstein reports Tottenham are nearing completion of the deal for around £35 million. The 25-year-old England international is keen on the move back to the Premier League after struggling for regular playing time under Diego Simeone this season.

The Conor Gallagher Tottenham transfer represents a significant coup for manager Thomas Frank, who has been a long-term admirer of the midfielder. Sources reveal Gallagher has said yes to the move and talks between his camp and Tottenham are ongoing.

Gallagher has made just nine starts across all competitions this season for Atletico, including only four in La Liga. He has scored two goals in 19 La Liga appearances but has been restricted predominantly to substitute appearances under Simeone.

Aston Villa had been in formal talks with Atletico Madrid over a loan with a conditional obligation, but Tottenham fear Gallagher’s preference may be to join Villa. However, the Conor Gallagher Tottenham negotiations have gathered pace following Rodrigo Bentancur’s hamstring injury, which will keep him out until April.

Gallagher joined Atletico from Chelsea in August 2024 for  €42 million on a five-year contract. He became the first Englishman to score a league goal for Atletico when he netted in a 3-0 win over Valencia in September 2024.

The midfielder enjoyed an impressive spell at Crystal Palace during the 2021-22 season, where he was named Player of the Year. His box-to-box energy and goal threat from midfield made him a standout performer before returning to Chelsea.

What Else?

Atletico are open to letting Gallagher leave this month as he has failed to carve out a starting role since his arrival. His €9 million salary can be onerous for a Spanish team, but Spurs can easily pay it. His arrival would also help Tottenham meet their homegrown player quota requirements.

The Conor Gallagher Tottenham move could be finalized quickly as both clubs look to conclude business. With the World Cup approaching this summer, Gallagher needs regular minutes to force his way back into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
