Manchester City have completed the Antoine Semenyo Manchester City transfer, signing the Ghana international from Bournemouth in a £64 million deal on a five-and-a-half-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.
The forward joins Pep Guardiola’s side on a contract running until 2030, taking City’s transfer spend in the last 12 months to £425.9 million on 14 players. An official announcement was made on Friday.
“I am so proud to have joined Manchester City. They have set the highest of standards and it’s a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep.”
City agreed a deal with Bournemouth outside of Semenyo’s £65 million release clause at £62.5 million, plus performance-related bonuses worth £1.5 million and a 10 per cent sell-on clause. The guaranteed part of the release clause was £60 million, but the fee Bournemouth will now receive is slightly more at £62.5 million over 24-month instalments.
Semenyo scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner in his final Bournemouth game to clinch a 3-2 home victory over Spurs on Wednesday before having his Manchester City medical on Thursday. The 26-year-old’s farewell strike capped a remarkable campaign that saw him emerge as one of the Premier League’s most lethal attackers.
The Antoine Semenyo Manchester City transfer sees the London-born winger join after three outstanding years at the Vitality Stadium. He has 10 goals and three assists this season in the Premier League, placing him joint-third on the scoring charts.
“I have so much scope for improvement, so to be at this club, at this stage of my career, is perfect for me,” Semenyo explained. “My best football is yet to come, I am sure of that. And City are in a great position – still involved in four competitions.”.
What Else?
City beat off competition from rivals Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham to sign the winger. City were the only club to contact Bournemouth about the release clause, which was active from January 1 to January 10.
Championship club Bristol City are due 20 per cent of any profit made on Semenyo, having sold him to Bournemouth in January 2023 for around £10 million. The Antoine Semenyo Manchester City move addresses Guardiola’s need for attacking reinforcements amid an injury crisis.
