Mathys Tel Tottenham Exit Looms as Forward Grows Frustrated Over Playing Time

Mathys Tel is growing increasingly frustrated with his limited playing time, with a Mathys Tel Tottenham exit possible this winter as he seeks regular minutes, according to RMC Sport.

The 20-year-old France striker is becoming dissatisfied with his lack of opportunities under manager Thomas Frank and will be listening to offers this January transfer window. A Mathys Tel Tottenham exit is not out of the question despite his permanent move only being completed last summer.

Tottenham signed Tel permanently from Bayern Munich in June 2025 for £29.8 million on a six-year contract running until 2031 after an initial loan spell in February saw him make 20 appearances and score three goals.

However, Tel has made just 14 Premier League appearances this season with only five starts, scoring three goals. He was initially omitted from Tottenham’s Champions League squad at the start of the season before being reintegrated following Dominic Solanke’s injury.

Roma are reported to be exploring the possibility of signing Tel as they look to reinforce their attacking options under Gian Piero Gasperini. The Italian club view the French forward as a dynamic option capable of playing across the front line who could inject pace and creativity into their squad.

Tel dreamed of making Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad with France, but his limited playing time has left him far from that goal. At a crucial stage of his development, the 20-year-old needs consistent minutes to fulfill his potential.

Manager Thomas Frank has hinted Tel is unlikely to depart following Brennan Johnson’s move to Crystal Palace and Mohammed Kudus struggling with injury. “I think it’s pretty fair to say that we are maybe a little bit short on offensive options,” Frank said.

What Else?

Standing at 1.83 meters and primarily operating as a centre-forward, Tel joined Bayern Munich from Rennes in July 2022 for €28.5 million. The versatile attacker made 83 appearances for the German giants, scoring 16 goals before his Tottenham switch.

A Mathys Tel Tottenham exit would need replacing before any departure is sanctioned. Spurs are reluctant to lose attacking depth during the crucial second half of the season, making a loan move more likely than a permanent transfer if he does leave.
